The Friend Who Just Stands By by Author Unknown
When trouble comes your soul to try.
You love the friend who just "stands by".
Perhaps there's nothing he can do.
The thing is strictly up to you,
For there are troubles all you own.
And paths the soul must tread alone.
Times when love cannot smooth the road.
Nor friendship lift the heavy load,
But just to know you have a friend
Who will "stand by" until the end,
Whose sympathy through all endures.
Whose warm handclasp is always yours.
It helps, somehow, to pull you through.
Although there's nothing he can do.
And so with fervent heart you cry.
"God bless the friend who just stands by."
This past week has been full of ups and downs for me. I tried to not let the little things get to me. Yesterday I had a friend email me I haven't talked to in a few weeks. She was letting me know she was thinking of me. How perfect her timing was and how I needed that email. It reminded me of this poem and how grateful I am to have those friends that stand by me through it all. It also reminded me that I need to be that kind of friend too.
All I can say is THANK YOU!!! Your email lifted me up!

I love those kinds of friends. I too had a friend who did the same for me. On my due date of the baby I lost she showed up on my doorstep with flowers, cookies, my favorite magazine and a card. I didn't think anyone in the world would remember the siginificance of the date and this friend's kind gestures made all of the difference. Aren't we so blessed to have those kinds of friends in our lives.
